Cowgirls Advance

March 24, 2010

The Cowgirl basketball team advanced to the third round of the women’s NIT with an overtime win over Big 12 member Texas Tech.  Wyoming had two chances to take the lead in the final seconds of the game but shots were missed by Vandiver and Kennedy. The Cowgirls made up for it in overtime by dominating the extra period out scoring the Red Raiders 14-3 to win the game 68-57. Next up for the Cowgirls will be a very familiar foe in the Cougars of BYU, the game will be played this Thursday in Laramie. Wyoming and BYU split their season series this year with each team winning at home.

The Cowgirl team has a very good vibe going on right now. To be able to play these NIT games at home is a great boost and there is no doubt winning the 2007 NIT title is helping with that. During the 2007 NIT title run the Cowgirls drew over 11,000 fans three separate times and I’m sure the NIT remembers that. In the next round Wyoming would face the winners of a PAC-10 Oregon vs California battle and there is a very good chance that game will be at home. First things first though……beat the Cougar-ettes!!!!
