It’s A New Era In The Wyoming Blogosphere…..

August 9, 2010

Cowboy Tough was started earlier this year with the goal of promoting UW athletics in a fun and entertaining fashion to a whole lot of people. Thanks to your support (yes you the reader!!!), Cowboy Tough has been picked up by the Fansided.com blog network and has been re-branded “7220 Report”. On this new network the blog will be able to reach a wider number of fans and will have some pretty cool features such as podcasts in the coming months. Thanks again for your readership and checkout the new site here: 7220 Report . Cowboy Tough will still be up and running but a majority of my time and work will be at the 7220 Report so update your bookmarks, stop on by the new site and let us know what you think.

It’s Moving Day

August 7, 2010

Cowboy Tough is moving folks but have no fear as the content that you all love is not going away. Cowboy Tough is being re-branded (no pun intended) and moving to a platform where it can reach the masses of  Poke Nation and all points in between. Unlike the Baltimore Colts we are moving in the light of day. Be sure to check back here on Monday for all the details as it adds to the excitement of the 2010 edition of Wyoming Cowboy football!

Let’s Go Camping!!!

August 5, 2010

It’s camping time folks, but there is no need to bring your tents, sleeping bags or granola bars. The University of Wyoming football team opens their second fall camp today under the leadership of coach Dave Christensen. This is the first season since 2005 coming off of  the Las Vegas Bowl victory that there has been this much excitement going into a Wyoming football season and we all know what happened that year. Chances are Christensen won’t let a similar thing happen as he has his mind-set on higher goals than lower level bowl victories.

To get your “camping” fix checkout this practice schedule released by the university. The key dates to focus on include August 13th, 17th, 21st and 25th where the team will hold scrimmages. Cowboy Tough will have complete coverage of fall camp and be sure to lookout for position previews as camp churns forward!

MWC Preseason Media Poll

July 27, 2010

You know football season is quickly approaching when the preseason media poll is released. There aren’t many surprises here as things look pretty clear-cut as of now but you never know when the season starts. Injuries, super impact freshman and transfers can shape a team allowing them to rise to the top or sink to the bottom. There is a full season preview to come on Cowboy Tough but off-hand I have a similar opinion as the media with the only exception being we might flip-flop BYU and Air Force. Here is what the media is predicting for 2010:

Mountain West Conference preseason football poll
(As chosen by a poll of MWC media members; listed with first-place votes in parantheses)

1. TCU (31) … 279
2. Utah … 242
3. BYU … 207
4. Air Force … 195
5. Wyoming … 147
6. San Diego State … 128
7. Colorado State … 96
8. UNLV … 56
9. New Mexico … 45

Finally, the Colors Have Turned!

July 19, 2010

Caught this little tidbit of information on a Cowboy Joe Club twitter update. The powers that be at UW have finally changed the colors at the War to reflect the “new” yet old school colors. This has been something that has stuck in my craw for years now. I mean how hard is it to apply some bright yellow (game day gold) paint? All I know is it looks good! Can’t wait for the 2010 season to start.

We are in the dog days of summer folks and I have been enjoying the summer weather a little too much to update this blog on a regular basis. Do not worry though because when August comes Cowboy Tough will be getting ready for the season with some potentially exciting changes to the site.

Adios Utah!!!

June 17, 2010

Maybe Joe Glenn had it right vs. Utah?

For almost one full week the Mountain West was knocking on the door of an automatic BCS birth after this coming seasons  evaluation period but those chances took a hit once again. Why? The Utah Utes are chasing the money (who can blame them?) and are leaving the MWC in favor of the Pac-10 who now has 12 teams after adding Colorado to the mix last week. I am very surprised about this development in general because I never thought Utah would leave the MWC if they couldn’t take BYU with them. Now the people in Utah are trying to justify their move by claiming going to the Pac-10 makes “The HolyWar” more intense . This is a pretty crazy statement but good for them, they are cashing in their recent football success for a major pay-day that will help sports programs and academics. Now let’s send them a nice parting gift by taking it to them at the War on October 16th!!!!!

Welcome Aboard Boise State!!!!

June 11, 2010

Quick turnaround from Monday folks. My guess is the major conerence shifts are not going to happen but either way the MWC decided Boise was a good fit for the league. Here is the official press release:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? The Mountain West Conference announced today that Boise State University has accepted an invitation to join the MWC as its 10th member institution, effective July 1, 2011.

“We are pleased and excited to welcome Boise State University to the Mountain West Conference,” said Commissioner Craig Thompson. “Since our inception just 11 short years ago, the Mountain West has experienced tremendous success, and the addition of Boise State will further enhance that strength. The MWC continues to strategize regarding potential membership scenarios and bringing Boise State into the Conference is an important part of that evolution.”

“The invitation to join the Mountain West Conference reflects the excellence that Boise State University has demonstrated academically and athletically,” said Boise State President Robert Kustra. “It will be a privilege to compete and partner with such a successful group of member institutions. This move is in the best interests of Boise State’s future, and the university is excited to be part of one of the nation’s most outstanding conferences.”

The Mountain West Conference was founded with eight members in 1998. Boise State is the second institution to join the Mountain West since that time; TCU became a member in 2005.
